Soccer! Football!

August 28, 2008

Soccer a game played by 22 men. A side would have 11 players. 1 Gk and 10 outfield players. The goal is to put the ball into the opponents goal.

Soccer is also the most watch sports in the world. And im also sure its the most played sport in the world, after sex. Nah, i think soccer is played by more people, hahaa. Anyway women must be wondering, what the hell is so special about soccer that get the guys so intrigue in it. Why do we like soccer so passionately and not other sports like basketball? Baseball blah blah blah.

This is purely base on a young man (me) leaving in Singapore. Why do i love soccer more than other sports, for example comparing to basketball. Simple, Basketball there will be many ”goals” scored in a game. The excitement is not as much as soccer. Where most teams normally win by 1 ”goal” and lesser ”goals” are scored during the game. To give a lousy analogy, when a happy thing keeps happening, u will feel bored. But when it happens once in a while, u will feel high, just like when A goal is scored in a soccer game. Don’t believe? Try having sex 15times a day, and then try having it once a day the next time.

The other thing i would like to touch on is, the media. In Singapore EPL is HUGE. Everyday there are a few pages in the papers dedicated to the EPL. So naturally it is like a propoganda, it forces u to keep reading about the epl until u feel that other sports doesnt exist. So media plays a part too. People like to be knowledgable about the ”in” things. Human nature. Don’t believe again? Then why do i hear everyone talking about God damn inflation nowadays, when its bloody happening long before John Maynard Keynes was born.

Thirdly, humans in general like to belong in a ”group” or ”association”. They feel more powerful this way and gain confidence. So in soccer you will have clubs to support. So this make it fun. When the team wins, it would feel like you are also winning. Actually NO, it just fills up a empty gap.

Anyway the above is just some brief points. For me, i support Manchester united. And i watch soccer because my family loves soccer since i was young. My whole family supports Manchester United, and i try to miss as little live matches so possible. I would say i am a die hard fan. But which fan doesn’t haha.

I have many friends who are also Manchester United supporters, like Guowen, Chenghan, Gabriel, Calvin, Adrian, Ryan… And the list goes on. Oh yah, im also trying to convert my nephew into a Man u supporter. The last time i saw him in a jersey, it was a chelsea one God damn it. Kids nowadays already know where the money is at!

Anyway since i am on the topic of soccer, i will be joining a street soccer competition with the lads. Chenghan, Gabriel, Guowen, Adrian and Me. Its $25, and its for charity. Heard that the top prize not bad. I think we got a chance lah, this team not bad. Stay tune to find out if we won ok! Next monday is the first game. Cheers!

EZ Link Or EZ Money?

Rethink $5 ez-link card charge

I am a Singaporean living in London. Whenever I am back for a holiday, MRT trains and buses are my main modes of transport.

Recently, I forgot to carry my ez-link card with me.

At the SMRT card-purchase counter, the staff member indicated that I had to pay $15 for an ez-link card.

The card contained the following:

A stored value of $7; a refundable deposit of $3; and a non-refundable card cost of $5.

I do not have any issues with the stored value nor the refundable deposit.

I am, however, appalled by the non-refundable card cost.

In London, most commuters use Oyster cards to travel on the Tube and buses. It operates on a system similar to that of the ez-link card.

A person buying an Oyster card for ‘pay-as-you-go usage will have to pay a £3 (S$8 ) deposit.

The top-up value of the Oyster card can be any amount.

At the end of the pay-as-you-go usage period, you can return the Oyster card to any Tube station office, and the £3 deposit will be refunded.

There are no additional charges.

The Octopus cards used for travel on public transport in Hong Kong require a deposit of HK$50 (S$9), which is refundable upon return of the card.

As seen from the examples above, the non-refundable card cost for an ez-link card is unusual.

In fact, the amount imposed seems disproportionate.

I did not purchase an ez-link card that day. The SMRT staff member advised me against it as I would be using the card for only two bus journeys, and recommended that I pay in cash instead.

The $5 card cost becomes a penalty when commuters need to purchase an additional ez-link card. Moreover, the ez-link card is most likely returned to the authorities at the end of its usage period because of the $3 deposit.

If the high card cost of $5 relates to the cost of production, why should commuters have to pay an additional deposit?

In the face of rising inflation and an uncertain economic outlook for Singapore, I suggest that the authorities reconsider the appropriateness of imposing a card cost on commuters who rely on public transport.

If the authorities are encouraging a ‘cashless’ and more advanced transport system like that which exists in many other countries, then the imposition of such a charge would only have the reverse effect.

才知幸福是吵吵闹闹 等待返去的时阵若到
我会让你先走 因为我会呒甘
放你为我目屎流 有一日咱若老
